If I were Meagan Good’s sister, 3 things I would tell her….

Seeing as though the video went viral last week of a lady asking Meagan to “cover up” during a forum where Meagan and her husband, Devon, were promoting their new book, I felt it was only right for me to blog about my thoughts. If you haven’t seen the video, google it and I’m sure it will pop up.

Meagan, I know lately you have gotten a plethora of good and bad feedback . Some comments were encouraging to you, and some were mean. Though I don’t agree with every aspect of what transpired during that forum, I want to tell you the truth in absolute love and with scripture as well. So this is for you , Meagan. If you were my sister, I would tell you these three things.

I would tell you as if I were your sister trying to get you in line before “mama came back home” and you were due for a spanking if you didn’t get it together quick. You will feel the intensity of what I’m communicating, but not because I look down on you at all. That intensity is rather the passion I have about the issues at hand, and I’m also hoping I can snatch other women out of the fire in the meantime while they are listening in on our conversation. Ok so here it goes.

1.You are absolutely beautiful!

I don’t think anyone that would meet you would be able to argue with that. But the truth of the matter is “…man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart”( 1 Samuel 16:7). Let me reiterate, man looks at the outward appearance. It may seem like that lady was “coming for you, when you didn’t send for her”, but the truth of the matter is the majority of people don’t know you and can only speak on what they see.

It will be very easy for you to continue to wear the type of clothes that I’ve seen you in on social media with the notion that “only God knows my heart”. The only problem is that you are exactly right. Only God knows your heart, but the rest of the world that is looking at your outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7) are clear on the fact that your dress code doesn’t always depict the God in you. You see, even though you’re merged into the secular world, you can’t impact them on levels that they feel your integrity is as compromised as theirs is. The ones who want to make excuses for their lifestyles will accept you, but the ones who come to the place of desiring real repentance will ultimately lose respect for you. Don’t be afraid to stand out. Light shines brighter in darkness.

2.Modesty is still amazing!

And I love how it’s addressed in 1 Peter 2. Let’s break it down via the scripture.

∇1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel…..

Now that word adorn translates in the greek to “kosmeo” which translates to “put in proper order” and to “decorate”.

This means you can be beautiful AND be in order with your clothes. I know you want to be sexy for your husband and by all means PLEASE do, but tone that sexy all the way down for us. Now you don’t have to look like a granny. Please no. But when its all said and done we don’t want to see your boobies, super tight clothes, or any of that either. Simmer it alllll the way down.

∇1 Timothy 2:9  also says we are to dress “…with shamefacedness”….

Now before you blank me out this does not mean that we cannot not have any fashion sense. I like this part of the scripture because it puts modesty in super perspective. “Shamefacedness” translates to the word “aidos” in the Greek, which means awe or reverence towards God.

Wow! Now that’s deep. That means that what you wear needs to reflect your reverence to God. It’s a holy thing! Before you put on your clothes, ask yourself, are my clothes reverencing God? Would I want Jesus to see my cleavage? Would I want His head turning to get a second glance at my butt, hips, or thighs?

And yes you’re right. The scripture teaches that God cannot be tempted with evil. He actually made our butts, hips, and thighs and holds us responsible how we utilize them whether we utilize them to please our husbands, or we allow them to help send a bunch of men to hell who never took the time to get their sex lives under control. And remember, it’s ok to look good! But by all means, looking good doesn’t mean that you have to dress in a way that would be irreverent of God. Which means that “no sis, you can’t wear anything in the name of Jesus and it be acceptable”.

1 Peter 2 also says that we are to dress “……with sobriety”…..

This means women are to dress with a sound mind. It means you are held accountable to think about how what you are wearing might have effect on other people. It is not ok to just assume that as long as it looks good to you, and your circle that its ok, especially if you are someone that others look up to. God expects us to think about how our appearance represents Him.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some people who are more full of lust than a dog is full of fleas. They are going to lust after you whether you were nude or covered from head to toe and you can’t do anything to help those kind of people. God has to deliver them and they have to want to be delivered. However, you have to be respectful enough to honestly think soberly about your fashion decisions. You have to come to the place where you say to yourself, “hmmm…that dress was made to reveal my butt, those pants were made to expose my crotch, that shirt was made to show my cleavage, but that doesn’t revere God AT all.

When you think soberly about issues like that, then you’re able to say to yourself, “and you know what? my husband is not the only person that’s going to be looking at my butt, crotch, or breast if I wear this. And then as you are thinking soberly you remember that there is a line of clothes that are made to be revealing to your husband. ITS CALLED VICTORIA’S SECRET. You make a Godly lady’s decision to keep victoria secret in your bedroom and bring modesty to the public.

You have to stay sober minded concerning your clothes because people are looking up to you and watching you. Your life, your clothes, your reactions….they’re all a walking billboard for Christ. You must choose to represent Him well.

3.Be open to correction.

“……he that refuseth reproof erreth” Proverbs 10:17

Reproof is translated to “towkechah” in the Hebrew, which means correction, chastisement, rebuke. Be ok with correction. Embrace correction. The scripture states that we go astray (err) when we refuse correction.

I love you, and I’m telling you this only because I would want you to tell me the same thing. By all means, please tell me if you see me doing anything that doesn’t represent Christ. When that lady asked you to “cover up”, I know your husband was trying to defend you, and I get it. Because if someone was saying something that will hurt my feelings my husband will be ready to chop their heads off and serve them for dinner. I promise you, I get it. But this was different. Why? Because we have an obligation to uphold a standard if we profess to be Christians.

Even though I know it probably hurt, and maybe her delivery wasn’t as warm as you would have liked, honestly her statement is what I have been wanting for you for awhile. If we were in the same situation, my husband would have said, “thank you, we will take note of that and we repent for not making the best decisions regarding my wife’s attire. Please forgive us, but in the meantime I’m going to cover her as we make our adjustments.”

Alright, and that’s it. I pray you heard my heart. I’m not looking down on you, shaking my neck at you, or turning my nose up at you. I’m simply being that same sister to you that I would want you to be to me.

In His love,

Amanda Ferguson♥

Thank you my sister. I stated on another blog how as kingdom citizens we have to remember who we represent. I used Michelle Obama as an example that as first lady if she displayed cleavage her picture would be all over the tabloids. Not only does she represent the president but also an entire nation. Meagan is beautiful but I’ve always wondered about her public appearance at times considering she is a ministers wife. The lady who asked her to cover up was right. I believed she dared to ask the question that many shied away from.

      Grace and peace

  10. Saved by the blood of the lamb on 24 Feb 2016 at 3:31 am

Thank you for the thought on the topic. But there is one thing that is in my spirit concerning the issue. There is one question that I would ask her. Are you saved? Are you a born again believer? Are you filled with the holy spirit? Been married to a pastor or reverend does not save you or make you a born again Christian. You have to know God for yourself. From my personal experience when you have the holy ghost with you he will convict you on what you can and cannot wear as a child of god. When you get save nobody have to tell you how to dress.

Wow! Amazing Mrs. Ferguson! Truly the Holy Spirit led you with those words of Wisdom, love and encouragement from one sister to another. She definitely needs to read this and will appreciate it much. She is my godsister, so I will be making sure she gets this immediately. She needs women like you in her “ear”. Despite of Devon’s reaction and though Meagan loves him greatly she is so humble and open, she would have received the correction yet would have asked for the clarity you gave. So please know I, as another woman of God, appreciate the gift the Father has given you within. To speak with the balance of Wisdom, Love and Truth. Blessings and Love to you always my beautiful sister in Christ.

    • amandafergusonblog on 24 Feb 2016 at 11:58 am

awww yay! Please let me know if she reads it:)

      • theeagle12 on 24 Feb 2016 at 3:41 pm

So, as I said I would, I sent your “blessed” read to her, but the other godsister she walks closely with read it (your message) before her and told her not to read it because it is from another judgmental Christian. I do not believe in getting into heavy debates over the Word of God, because it speaks the TRUTH for itself, yet I did say what I had to say in regards to you coming in love and speaking truth…using scripture to validate it. Mrs. Ferguson, being honest with you, the reason they are blinded and believe as they do because they do not read the word of God. They believe they can know God and have a relationship with Him without being “religious” reading and studying His word in depth. Nevertheless, God is pleased by you and this message will be seen…all in His timing.

        Blessings and Agape

This blog is filled with so much love, gentleness, wisdom and WORD!!! It’s EVERYTHING. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Blessings for your journey. I sincerely pray this blog reaches our sister in Christ and her heart receives it with joy. I am really hoping a seasoned saint/Titus 2 woman disciples her on this new journey. Nevertheless, all things will work together!
    Much success doll!

  19. Avé on 24 Feb 2016 at 7:19 am

I Love the fact that this response has so much love and kindness, grace and mercy. However, I’m confused and need someone to clarify….I watched the video and it sounded like the lady in the audience said that she had seen Megan on a Magazine cover before showing to much? I was led to believe that Megan’s tears, and her husbands response (which I don’t agree with) were because the woman was bringing up something of the past, which was irrelevant because Megan has since been covered up? Correct me if I’m wrong, but Megan was covered on stage, so was the magazine that the lady spoke of, something of the past or was this recent?

  20. marjoriebrookins on 24 Feb 2016 at 8:15 am

Very well said and written…….. The truth will set you free! Not only was this blog for Meagan Good; it was for all women who are struggling with this issue. I thank God for you and I thank you for allowing God to use you as an inspiration for others; to God be the glory!???

God richly bless you Mrs Amanda Ferguson! I am in love with this message. The Holy Ghost explained everything thing clear through you in such a way that no man with a lively conscience will still not try to re examine him/herself after reading through this blog. The message and what it conveyed is very understandable.
We can’t live as we like Christians. The devil is a lair! There’s a STANDARD! O Jesus help us all these lies from the devil deliver us, give us a clear convincing and convicting revelation of who you have truly called us to be and represent here on earth. Absolute HOLINESS requires everything in and out of us. Clean hands represent the outward appearance which the world sees and pure heart represent the inward which only God sees .

God bless and empower you more daughter of Zion. You’re a blessing indeed.

Bless you Amanda! I saw it the day before yesterday and i was busy with placing a commend on the you tube post to say just what you have said, but praise the Lord. I could not have said it better. So I thank you. This is also telling me that i am doing good. Not just place a comment, but as I prayed and waited on Jesus to tell me exactly how to respond, You did and that’s soo fine with me. You said it all well. Very correct and with love. I felt it. May the Lord bless you and your household. Amen

  26. Vernarda80 on 24 Feb 2016 at 3:24 pm

Well said Holy Ghost, well said… I have to admit and repent… I had not seen the video for myself, but heard responses to it that Megan Good’s husband came to her rescue after a women commented on her attire. Me and my mom were having a conversation and some way the topic came up and I approved how the husband handled the situation without being fully aware. I had to repent and get that thing right, because as a Godly Saved Holy Ghost filled women we are to dress as representing Christ. A lot of time we as Believers / Christians preach against those things that go against the word of God until it hits our house. Then we compromise or have excuse when it hits our house. God says not so just as hard as you preached against it to others you should preach even harder when it hits home.

  27. CH on 24 Feb 2016 at 3:29 pm

    You said it very wisely.

  28. rahima810 on 24 Feb 2016 at 3:38 pm

Powerful word delivered in love and kindness. I pray that Meagan will be encouraged and understand that as women of God we are held to a higher standard of accountability as we touch and impact so many lives in ways that we don’t think about or imagine. Modesty is a beautiful thing because we are rare and precious jewels and a priceless treasure that should be hidden from the eyes of all men except for the one whom God found worthy to have such a precious and priceless treasure. Thank you for taking the time to write this blog and share with just not Meagan but with all women because their are many who needed this powerful reminder delivered in love that we are representatives of God. Thank you and may God continue to bless you. Rahima

Wow!! I love this! This shows that there are still real women of God that truly love in truth! I love Meagan Good, I’m glad you had the boldness and love to speak the truth. I struggled with my choice of attire and God continued to deal with me about it. You struck some chords in me with this blog! I love you so much for this! Blessing!

  31. Julia on 24 Feb 2016 at 6:01 pm

Thank you Mrs Ferguson for drawing attention to this incident. The fact that her husband, Devon, actually said, “She gone wear what she wants to wear, In Jesus name, Amen”, is beyond problematic. Even more disturbing is the standing ovation they received after he said it. Amen signifies agreement. Have Christians waxed cold for the truth? Are Christians so star struck that they’ll pledge their allegiance to man’s opinion/viewpoint more than Jesus Christ and the cross? This is perplexing. I agree, your post is in the utmost love. If Meagan finds no love in reading/hearing this, then I truly have to question what she stands for and if she is more concerned with maintaining her image in Hollywood more than worshipping God “in spirit and in truth” because she was created in His image. She’s a gorgeous woman and awesome actress, but the Word makes it clear that we are to live and work to bring honor to God.

We can be fearfully and wonderfully made, fierce and COVERED UP and still be fly. She has to find her true worth in Christ and balance that against the movie industry. If she can’t do that, then it may be time to seek the Lord for a new career that will allow her to be her authentic self without compromising her standards. Hope she realizes how blessed she is to be on display before the world; that’s all the more reason to make the Gospel the hi-light of all she does. Love her like a sister, but not feeling her disrespect for her image. Lord help us to help our Sister Meagan.

Prior to reading your blog I sat down and watched the video of Meagan Good and her husband interview. All I can say is awesome well written Blog!! and much needed!! This really bless me it is written with tender love, correction and edification. Thank you for representing us with class and wisdom I pray that other Christian women in the secular industry also read this blog. blessings love you.

  33. Joyous Hodges-Gamble on 24 Feb 2016 at 7:23 pm

This is such a heartwarming way of coming to someone in love and correction. The sad thing is, the Word of God is true and ppl have become cold hearted towards the Word of God and refuse to be corrected in our wrong doing. Now as sisters of hers and daughters of Zion, our responsibility is to intercede for her and ask God to soften her heart and eradicate any and all relationships she has with divisive ppl that will pull her away from this great teaching. God bless you and your family.

  34. Tiffany Miller on 24 Feb 2016 at 7:25 pm

Wow!!!! This blog is on point in so many ways. This is wise counsel not only to Meagan, but to any woman who names the name of Christ. We have to be sensitive to the holy spirit, and to the way we represent God. When one member of the body suffers, the whole body suffers. I believe our sister in Christ Meagan will carry the adorning spirit of EXCELLENCY in this area of her life. What the devil has meant for evil, God will turn it around for her good! We love you Meagan! Awesome words Mrs. Ferguson! Thanks for being willing and obedient!

Hello Mrs Ferguson, I appreciate the article you wrote to address our sister in Christ. I’m 52 years old and my sister is 56. Well we both dissed the video and the comments. I believe that you addressed the video in a loving and caring way. I also made the statement to my sister that the Holy Ghost teaches us the way we should dress as well as act as women of God, with conviction. So I as well would ask is Devon and Meagan filled in the Holy Ghost. I love you and your husband’s ministry. May God bless you and your family.

I agree with your statements as well. I was upset that the church was booing the woman that said something. Yes, her approach could’ve been better but I don’t think that they should’ve booed her. I always tell my girls and myself that I want to represent CHRIST in every area of my life, I don’t want to give anyone any room to point out anything that doesn’t line up with THE WORD OF GOD.

Amanda, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Everything you stated has been said with love. I think Megan has not matured to that level yet in her dress code as a Godly woman. Some take longer than others to “arrive”. Also, remember she is an Actress/Celebrity. I know we expect a lot out of her as a Pastor’s wife, but I think it’s such a struggle for her to keep it 100 holy due to her career, especially when it comes to dressing modest. Christians do need to be held accountable. Surely, if we all have to line up with God’s word, she will too. There is no way around it! #weloveyouMegan

As usual, you were right on target. I LOVE hearing/reading what you have to say when the Lord inspires you because you operate in such grace & humility and you say what needs to be said in love. I pray it not only reaches and inspires Mrs Franklin, but anyone else this may apply to. On a completely different note, you & Prophet Ferguson look absolutely stunning in this picture. Praying for God’s best for you & your family. Have a great day.

Blessings daughter Ferguson, I am Mama Pam from California. I have read your heartfelt, Spirit driven letter to your Sister in Zion, and as a mother in Zion give you 2 thumbs up. Daughter you wrote not as a Sister but a seasoned Mother. Where are the Mother’s at? The older women are to teach the younger. I am 64/46 lol years young and one of the best ways of teaching is by example. I conduct myself and dress myself in a manner that when I approach the young women they hear me as they see I live what I am teaching. You my dear Amanda, exemplify modesty, and pure elegance and beauty of what a woman of God should look like when she steps out the house. Your pictures of you and hubby are sexy and timeless, so elegant and refined…and you have it all covered up. I just met you since Periscope but love you young people of God..Prophet and Amanda Ferguson, God bless you dear you are a women with old folks Wisdom lol I have not seen the video, but read all your comments and seems you are totally on point. Save your blog as a teaching for women, Modesty in Dressed in the Body of Christ.

I agree with this 100% (and I am someone who, up until almost three and a half years ago went YEARS feeling unattractive unless I dressed “sexy.” But I thank God for His patience and love as He has done, and is still doing a work of healing on the inside of me so that now, I can have a sweatsuit on and feel attractive). Also, this is beautifully written. I hope that Meagan reads it and is able to receive what you are saying.

    Hi Amanda,

I don’t know if you will get this, but I can sure use your advice.

I had a best friend since I was 11 years old, but at a point our friendship was more than that.

We were too attached to each other that it became suffocating. We are both Christians, so we knew it

was ungodly. We both did a beauty for ashes course and now we are both counselors. Yeahh to that.

But here is the thing: we bought a similar ring and engraved our “anniversary” in it. We have a necklace chain, both with

a half heart and we have the same tattoo in our wrist: MB (Maureen and Bernice)

I am seeking the Lord seriously and it is been 9 months since the Lord is telling me through different prophetic words

that somethings are holding me back. I did a lot of soul searching and did what I had to do. Everything was going great,

everybody was noticing the Lords hand was working. Started preaching at our youth service. And than the word came again

last Sunday. and then again Tuesday (2 different people). So yesterday He revealed a book that was from Jehovah’s witnesses and my chain (the half heart). I for myself decided to get rid of the ring too.

But now my question: what to do with the tattoo? I don’t want to laser it. (it is for me also to expensive and it is not done where I live) and I guess making something else out of it, is the same as getting a new tattoo and I did not get a tattoo after the Lord opened my eyes about it. What to you think??

I really want to find my spouse now (I am 33) and I don’t want a tie to a friend (even though we broke every ungodly connection and have now a healthy friendship with clear boundaries) to hold me back. Especially not something from so long ago.

Hope you get this. God bless you, your husband and beautiful daughters

( I follow you guys on periscope)

Moge de Heer u zegenen/May the blessings of the Lord be with you,

    Bernice Terborg BEc

YES, YES, YES, and YES!!! I was so grieved by every angle of this situation. I know I’m two years late, but I’m SO happy that you addressed this issue with truth AND love, sadly something many in the Church no longer wish (or know) to do. This was beautifully written, and I loved that you included what your husband would have said had he been in DeVon’s shoes. And I could hear him saying it too! lol God bless you both, your beautiful babies, and your ministry!

I enjoyed reading this. This is something to share with young women who are newly saved n have questions about their attire as they strive to represent Christ n the change He has made in their life.
